Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday announced that Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Barsar will become a CBSE-affiliated school from the next academic session. He added that 20 government schools have so far received recognition from the CBSE board.
He announced this while addressing a mammoth public gathering at Barsar assembly constituency in Hamirpur district on Friday.

The Chief Minister also announced that the Barsar Hospital would be upgraded to a 100-bed facility, adding that Rs 300 crore would be spent on the Cancer Institute at the Hamirpur Medical College and on establishing an indoor stadium and parking facility in Barsar. Additionally, MA and MCom classes will commence in the local government college, and solar and high-mast lights will be installed in various gram panchayats and main markets in the area.
The Chief Minister said that Rs 100 crore would be spent on creating seven special departments in the Hamirpur Medical College and Hospital.
“All the roads in the district are being double-laned, and a provision of Rs. 37 crore has been made for the Saloni-Deotsidh road. Furthermore, a sum of Rs 96 crore is being spent on strengthening the roads in the Barsar Vidhan Sabha area. A Rs 65 crore scheme has been approved for the beautification of the Baba Balak Nath shrine and its surroundings,” he said.
“The BJP government hardly gave any funds for the mini secretariat building in Barsar. Our government gave Rs 16.50 crore for its completion, which was completed with an outlay of Rs 17.45 crore. Our government also gave funds for the furniture and library,” he said.
Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, the Chief Minister said that during their regime, the BJP constructed buildings worth Rs 1,000 crore in the name of development, which were lying vacant. He also criticised them for announcing the opening of 600 schools just before the general election without making any provisions for teaching faculty.
The standard of education deteriorated during their regime and the state’s ranking came down to 21st position, he claimed.
“It was quite a herculean task for the government to bring about reforms in the education sector and improve its quality, while also balancing the student-teacher ratio to ensure that every school has adequate teaching staff. The results soon began to show, and with the strenuous efforts of the government, the state achieved 5th position in the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) in the field of Education”, he stated.
He further said that the BJP never thought of generating resources and spending funds for the welfare of the people. This can be seen from the fact that during their regime, liquor vend licences were always renewed to benefit select individuals at a 10 percent annual premium.
“As soon as my government took over, we decided to auction liquor vends and generated an income of Rs 450 crore then, which the BJP failed to do during its five-year regime. Apart from this, we saved Rs 3,000 crore by curbing corruption and introduced welfare schemes for widows and children from the funds thus saved,” he said.
“I don’t differentiate between people or regions on the basis of political affiliations. I want to ensure development of all regions equally,” the Chief Minister said.
Stating that the Rs 1,500 crore relief package announced by the Prime Minister for the disaster-affected has not been received so far, the Chief Minister urged all seven Members of Parliament from the state to help in getting the funds announced by the Prime Minister for the affected people.
